We have just added to our extensive exotic car inventory a beautiful 1971 Plymouth Duster in Tor Red over Black with only 3,687 miles since restoration. This Duster started life as a Twister model, which had all of the appearance parts of the Duster 340 with an economical engine. In place of the original 318 2bbl and three speed manual transmission you will find a 408ci stroker engine good for a dyno verified 503 horsepower and a four speed stick. The 360 block features an Eagle crank and forged H beam rods, Diamond pistons, RHS cylinder heads, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and AED carburetor with billet metering blocks, an FBO ignition module and a Hughes solid lifter cam. There is a March accessory drive up front and TTI headers breathing into a full TTI exhaust on the sides. Inside the engine compartment you will also spot a thick aluminum radiator as well as a Borgeson power steering gearbox, and there’s a modern master cylinder activating a front disc brake kit on the firewall. A billet flywheel with a Centerforce clutch sends power back to the rebuilt transmission and on through a new driveshaft to a narrowed 8 3/4 rear with 3.55 gears and a sure grip and Moser 30 spline axles.
Inside, the largely restored interior features new Legendary seat covers, new seat foam, new carpet, a new headliner and more. This was a well equipped Twister so the buckets are factory, and since it was an original 3 speed car it also has its original and rare steering column with key release. A 71-74 B body Hurst pistol grip shifter (with hand carved grips) and a Tuff Wheel keep your hands busy while New Vintage instruments in a custom dash panel make sure you’re informed. There is plenty of Dynamat sound insulation to allow the RetroSound stereo to do its work, and the tinted glass works as good as it looks.
Outside, the car is painted its original high impact color, Tor Red. The Twister stripe package was swapped out for the Duster 340 set, though they’re largely the same. Factory dual hood scoops complement the black decals, as does the Go Wing spoiler added out back. The rear was narrowed to allow for the 15×7 front and 15×8 inch rear MB Old School mags wrapped in BFGoodrich rubber. Factory painted racing style mirrors are on each door and there is a restored shark tooth grille (factory on the Twister as well) up front. The car has a GREAT stance, and the finish, panel gaps and overall appearance are extremely nice.
The chassis is nearly as clean with painted floor pans and all new suspension components front and rear. There is a 73-up K frame with stronger spool type engine mounts, a Wilwood disc brake kit, a sway bar and Bilstein RSD shocks up front while more Bilsteins are out back along with new leaf springs, traction bars, a sway bar and a new fuel tank. Subframe connectors keep the car from flexing. Altogether it is a big improvement over stock!
This is a very well built, very tight car with great eye appeal and a ton of power!
