This car is powered by a 1776 cc performance-built SCAT engine. It produces 95 horsepower and 1265 ft-lbs of torque. The engine features a performance cam, 8.5:1 compression pistons, Pro Street heads, and 40×35.5mm valves. Additionally, it includes a counterweighted crank with 8 pins, 1.25 rockers, an electric distributor, and chrome I-beam connecting rods with ARP bolts. The lightweight flywheel, SCAT racing lifters, steel pushrods, and 60 amp alternator ensure maximum performance. The engine also boasts a P40 35mm dual carb kit, SCAT aluminum crank, and Stage 1 Kennedy pressure plate.
The engine compartment and overall look of the car still appear as sporty as when it was new. The car runs, shifts, and drives perfectly. The unmistakable sound of the high-horsepower VW engine is sure to turn heads. Performance was good in the lightweight Karmann-Ghia, but the addition of the SCAT engine and 4-speed transmission elevates it to an unbelievable level.
