Paint and body present to a show-quality standard. A rare factory hard top had been fitted for decades and is included with the sale — but the car’s current owner preferred the versatility of a convertible top, so he had a new folding frame and canvas top installed. Interior presents beautifully with leather seating surfaces, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, square-weave carpets, coco mats, excellent doors cards and dash, and a period Blaupunkt radio. Per the included kardex, this 356 left the factory with engine number 601348 — however, engine 601438 is currently installed. Either someone at the Porsche factory transcribed two digits when making the initial entry in 1959, or the engine was replaced at some point in the past. The engine was rebuilt approximately 500 miles ago; engines from this serial number range were all 60 hp “normal” units, but this particular engine was rebuilt to 75 hp “super” specifications. The bump in performance is appreciable.
