1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator “Hertz Rent-a-Racer”
A highly significant and exceptionally rare muscle car, this 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator is one of only 102 chassis ordered by the Hertz Corporation for its exclusive “Rent a Racer” program.
Built in January 1970, this example is presented in what is believed to be unrestored, original condition with matching numbers equipment and original livery, offering a rare opportunity to preserve an authentic piece of American performance history.
Finished in striking Competition Blue over white vinyl interior, this Eliminator is powered by a 290 HP 351 cu. in. carbureted V-8 engine paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. It was specially equipped through Cleveland DSO with a factory power sunroof exclusive to Hertz cars.
Factory equipment includes power steering, power brakes, AM radio, air conditioning, and a dash clock. Performance enhancements include the Eliminator package, competition suspension, 3.00 rear axle, and dual exhaust.
This highly collectible Cougar is accompanied by its build sheet, Deluxe Marti Report, and Eliminator Registry correspondence, providing strong documentation and provenance.
